Scottish Borders Meet - Melrose SEE ADDED NOTE
Wednesday 28th April - Tuesday 4th May 2021
To start the Great Scottish Odyssey 2021 we are offering a Meet at Melrose in the Scottish Borders. Melrose is a lovely small Borders town, situated on the River Tweed, with a beautiful historic ruined Abbey, the resting place of Robert the Bruce’s heart. It is a good centre for walking, cycling and touring the area and Edinburgh is easily accessed by train from Tweedbank Station which is 1.5 miles away.
Within the town are many excellent cafes, restaurants and pubs and very good local shopping.
Walks along the banks of the river or up onto the nearby Eildon Hills (St Cuthbert’s Way) can be accessed direct from the site. There are some 1500 miles of footpaths to explore within the Region.
Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotland’s most prolific writers, is nearby with wonderful walks, a visitor centre and cafe.
The Meet will begin on Wednesday 28th April and end on Tuesday 4th May 2021. You are welcome to join us for all or part of our time there.
As it is a Meet there will be no formal programme, deposit, rally fund or set meals but we still intend to have a good time in a Covid secure manner.
You will need to book your own site and the one we are using is Melrose Gibson Park, a Caravan and Motorhome Club Site (page 228 in current book). This is a small site within the town and we would recommend early booking as it gets very busy and this period is over the Scottish May Bank Holiday.
If you would like to join us please use the Apply button below. Also email us with the dates you expect to be there.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Thank you for expressing your interest in the above Event and for booking your site.
However, due to the uncertainty associated with the COVID restrictions in Scotland and the role out of the vaccine, I regret to advise you that it has been decided to cancel this as an official ICA Meet.
We understand, at this stage, that the First Minister for Scotland may lift some restrictions to allow travel to commence in Scotland on 26th April but we can’t be certain how remaining restrictions will impact on the success of the Event.
Some of you may still wish to make the trip should restrictions be lifted and want to know who else is of the same mind. So could you please inform Phil and Val whether you intend, as individuals, to go ahead or not. They will amend the list of participants on the website. You all have access to this information through your profile page..
As the site is CMC then you have the option of cancelling your booking or amending it to the new dates mentioned below. We believe that new booking and amendments will be possible from April.
The good news is that an amended version of the Scottish Odyssey is being offered next year when we hope things are more settled. Details will soon appear on the website and in the magazine but outline dates are as follows:
Melrose 4th to 10th May 2022
Trossachs 10th to 17th May 2022
Morvich 17th to 24th May 2022
Organisers : Phil & Val Steel
